Odisha Assembly Speaker holds all-party meeting ahead of Budget session

A day before the commencement of the Budget Session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly, Speaker Surama Padhy convened an all-party meeting and sought the cooperation of the opposition and ruling party members for smooth conduct of the House proceedings.

The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, his deputy K V Singh Deo, BJD deputy leader in the House, Prasanna Acharya, and Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Rama Chandra Kadam.

The Budget session of the state assembly is scheduled to commence on February 17, Tuesday and will continue till April 8, with a recess from February 25 to March 8. 

After the meeting, Surama Padhy said Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati will address the House on Tuesday, while a discussion on the motion of thanks on his address will be held for two days, on February 18 and 19.

The Finance Minister Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, will present the State Budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 on February 20 and the two-day general discussion on the Budget will be held on February 23 and 24. The Appropriation Bill will be tabled on March 31.

After the recess, the departmentally related standing committees will submit their reports before the House on March 9, Speaker added.

The discussion focused on ensuring a peaceful and orderly conduct of the House, stated Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Mukesh Mahaling following the end of the meeting.

The opposition parties, BJD and Congress, are gearing up to grill the government on various issues, including the paddy procurement issue, Mahanadi water dispute, and pollution control measures. The ruling BJP is preparing its strategy to counter the opposition’s attacks.
