Sowing of Rabi crops commences in some parts of the country

The sowing of Rabi crops has started in some parts of the country as per preliminary reports received on the sowing of crops from different states. As against 5.98 lakh hectare last year, pulses have been sown in 8.8 lakh hectare so far in the current Rabi sown. Sugarcane has been planted in 0.81 lakh hectare as compared to 0.80 lakh hectare at this time last year.

Besides, oilseeds have been sown in 2.63 lakh hectare as compared to 8.51 lakh hectare last year. It has been reported that sowing of rapeseed & mustard this year is running late as compared to last year.

Further, the sowing of Kharif crops is over except for rice in some parts of the country. As compared to 374.73 lakh hectare on 25th October last year, the area under Kharif rice stands at 383.57 lakh hectare as on today.
