30 Oct 2013 Evaluate

This season after the procurement process started from October 1, the states of Punjab and Haryana have procured over 110 lakh tonnes (LT) of paddy arrival, as per report compiled by food and supplies department officials. This procurement was despite reports of paddy arriving in discoloured form and higher moisture content due to erratic weather in recent months.

In Punjab, government agencies and private millers procured nearly 78 LT of paddy. Over 93.2% of the paddy arrival has been procured by government agencies while the rest has been procured by private rice sellers and traders. The district of Patiala, Ferozepur and Moga were leading in paddy procurement.

In Haryana, nearly 33 LT of paddy has so far arrived in the various grain markets. This is higher than the paddy arrival of nearly 30.8 LT in the same period last year. Kurukshetra, Karnal and Fatehabad districts were leading in paddy arrivals.
