More FDI from US in Aviation sector required: Ajit Singh

31 Oct 2013 Evaluate

Underscoring the significant steps that India has taken to make air-travel more affordable, Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh has insisted for more foreign direct investment from America in the country which is better known as land of opportunities. In the fourth India-US Aviation Summit which was being attended by top officials from the two countries' aviation sector, top US companies exhibited their interest to invest in India's booming aviation sector's various fields, from security to building new airports, with recent changes in regulatory environment.

Although, during the summit, top Obama Administration officials urged the Indian Government to address its concerns with regard to some of the key policy issues, it also praised the recent measures taken by Delhi.

As per US Transportation Secretary Anthony Fox, Indian aviation is witnessing dramatic growth across the board, from the emergence of new carriers to a growing middle class ready to take travel by air. And further, according to the US Transportation Secretary, recent changes to regulatory environment are another encouraging signs for the industry since they send a signal about Indian government increasing recognition towards needs and interest of business.

Besides, US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA)’s director, Leocadia I Zak also asserted that the US-India Aviation Cooperation Program (ACP) was well-positioned to foster growth in the aviation market and to facilitate the changes needed to support that growth.

Notably, US and Foreign Commercial Service (US and FCS’s deputy and director General, Judy Rising Reinke, highlighted that while, US aerospace exports, during the past 10 years to India have more than doubled reaching more than $ 1.5 billion in 2012, Indian aerospace exports to the United States have grown by almost 22 times what they were a decade ago.
