The Bharatiya Janata Party has launched an all out attack on former Gujarat IPS officer RB Sreekumar by accusing him of cooking up the ISRO spying case in 1994. BJP Spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi has asserted that the anti-Narendra Modi policeman was part of the Intelligence Bureau team that illegally detained and cooked up the case against Nambi Narayanan, former ISRO scientist. They also accused activist Teesta Setalvad of helping Sreekumar when a chargesheet was filed in the case.

The BJP has alleged that it was part of a Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) conspiracy to stop India from developing cryogenic technology. Lekhi said that by 2004 it was clear that the ISRO spy case was a fabricated story. Many men who single handedly fabricated the story, included RB Sreekumar.
