Asian markets settled mostly lower on Thursday as investors continued to monitor developments in the Middle East following reports of fresh US strikes on southern Iran, while Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed it had targeted an American airbase without revealing the location. Markets stayed cautious ahead of US April Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) inflation data due later in the day, expected to show an acceleration in price pressures. Japanese shares declined amid fears that soaring global energy costs could lead to a gradual tightening of monetary policy. The Kospi index dropped as the Bank of Korea kept interest rates unchanged for an eighth straight meeting, highlighting persistent inflation and currency risks. Concurrently, artificial intelligence-related shares came under selling pressure following their recent rally. Meanwhile, Indonesian market remained close on account of holiday.
