Indian equity markets added gains to trade over one and half percent higher in late afternoon session amid optimism over US-Iran peace deal. After US President Donald Trump’s comments regarding near completion of peace deal with Iran to end the war, Iran has acknowledged receiving a proposed memorandum of understanding from the US and the confirmed significant progress in negotiations. The development has cooled off the global crude oil prices which also bolstered sentiment on the bourses. The Brent crude oil prices have declined over 4% to trade near $86 a barrel. Further, the Indian rupee has strengthened by 81 paise to trade at 95.03 against the US dollar.
On the global front, all Asian and European equity markets were trading higher amid hopes of ending hostilities in Middle East.
The BSE Sensex is currently trading at 75241.20, up by 1408.65 points or 1.91% after trading in a range of 74453.39 and 75300.85. There were 26 stocks advancing against 4 stocks declining on the index.
The top gaining sectoral indices on the BSE were Industrials up by 2.94%, Realty up by 2.78%, Telecom up by 2.67%, Bankex up by 2.57% and Capital Goods up by 1.86%, while there were no losers on BSE sectoral index.
The top gainers on the Sensex were Interglobe Aviation up by 4.49%, Bajaj Finance up by 4.29%, Larsen & Toubro up by 4.10%, HDFC Bank up by 3.50% and Eternal up by 2.93%. On the flip side, Tech Mahindra down by 2.36%, Power Grid Corporation down by 0.80%, Tata Steel down by 0.25% and HCL Technologies down by 0.05% were the top losers.
Meanwhile, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in its latest data report on ECB/FCCB has showed that Indian companies raised around $3.76 billion through external commercial borrowings (ECBs) in the month of April 2026. This was higher than $2.91 billion raised in the same month a year ago, while lower than $5.43 billion raised in March.
According to the data, Renew Surya Roshni ($500 million), Reliance Industries ($480 million), Serentica Renewables India 14 ($397 million), Indian Oil Corporation ($200 million), Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency ($176 million) and Air India ($133 million) were among the prominent borrowers.
The Reserve Bank of India data further showed that the companies raised funds via ECBs for diverse purposes like manufacturing, on lending, working capital requirements, refinancing and import of capital goods.
The CNX Nifty is currently trading at 23548.70, up by 387.10 points or 1.67% after trading in a range of 23313.90 and 23557.60. There were 37 stocks advancing against 13 stocks declining on the index.
The top gainers on Nifty were Shriram Finance up by 6.12%, Interglobe Aviation up by 4.44%, Bajaj Finance up by 4.27%, Larsen & Toubro up by 4.22% and HDFC Bank up by 3.45%. On the flip side, ONGC down by 2.99%, Nestle down by 2.78%, Tech Mahindra down by 2.53%, Power Grid Corporation down by 0.84% and SBI Life Insurance company down by 0.76% were the top losers.
All Asian equity markets were trading higher; Nikkei 225 surged 1837.73 points or 2.78% to 66,055.00, Taiwan Weighted added 1019.58 points or 2.31% to 44,169.04, Hang Seng advanced 410.71 points or 1.67% to 24,660.00, KOSPI increased 359.67 points or 4.43% to 8,123.62, Straits Times rose 30.93 points or 0.62% to 5,019.03, Shanghai Composite strengthened 44.5 points or 1.1% to 4,031.51 and Jakarta Composite gained 143.83 points or 2.39% to 6,029.86.
European equity markets were trading higher; UK’s FTSE 100 increased 131.14 points or 1.26% to 10,435.02, France’s CAC rose 171.6 points or 2.05% to 8,372.40 and Germany’s DAX gained 362.79 points or 1.5% to 24,572.50.
