JSW Steel reports 2% growth in May crude steel production

JSW Steel has reported a 2% growth in its crude steel production for May 2011. The production of crude steel increased to 5.77 lakh tonnes in May 2011 as compared to 5.65 lakh tonnes in May 2010.

The production of flat rolled products increased to 3.90 lakh tonnes in May 2011 as compared to 3.88 lakh tonnes in May 2010 up by 1%. Moreover, the production of long rolled products increased by 8% to 1.19 lakh tonnes in May 2011 as compared to 1.09 lakh tonnes in May 2010.

The company has posted a growth of 16.14% in its net profit after tax for the quarter ended March 31, 2011 at Rs 832.66 crore as compared to Rs 716.95 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2010. Its total income has surged by 34.11% at Rs 7109.04 crore for the quarter under review from Rs 5300.72 crore for the similar quarter a period ago.

For the year ended March 31, 2011, the company’s net profit after tax has declined by 0.60% at Rs 2010.67 crore as compared to Rs 2022.74 crore for the year ended March 31, 2010. Its total income has increased by 25.17% from Rs 18731.56 crore for the previous year as compared to Rs 23445.88 crore for the year under review.
