Indian equity benchmarks continued to trade lower in morning deals, after renewed tensions between the United States and Iran triggered a spike in crude oil prices, dampening investor sentiment across global markets. Traders overlooked the report released by United Nations Trade and Development (UNCTAD) stated that Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflows to India increased by 44 per cent in 2025 to $39 billion. It said the country continued to strengthen its position as a major investment destination. Sector-wise, auto component industry’s stocks remained in watch as Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA) said the Indian automotive components sector is expected to grow around 8-10 per cent in the current fiscal, driven by domestic demand and robust exports despite geopolitical headwinds. On the global front, Asian markets were trading mixed following the broadly negative cues from Wall Street overnight, amid concerns about re-escalation in the Middle East conflict and the related spike in crude oil prices that would translate to higher inflation and could keep interest rates elevated.
The BSE Sensex is currently trading at 77655.78, down by 524.94 points or 0.67% after trading in a range of 77555.52 and 77850.46. There were 4 stocks advancing against 26 stocks declining on the index.
The top gaining sectoral indices on the BSE were Realty up by 0.57%, Metal up by 0.33%, Healthcare up by 0.32%, Utilities up by 0.22%, Power up by 0.09% while, FMCG down by 1.44%, Oil & Gas down by 1.22%, Energy down by 1.00%, Auto down by 0.96%, Consumer Durables down by 0.75% were the losing indices on BSE.
The top gainers on the Sensex were Sun Pharma. Inds. up by 0.46%, Adani Ports &Special up by 0.41%, Tech Mahindra up by 0.20% and ICICI Bank up by 0.14%. On the flip side, ITC down by 2.60%, Asian Paints down by 2.38%, Maruti Suzuki India down by 2.25%, Interglobe Aviation down by 1.97% and Bajaj Finance down by 1.82% were the top losers.
Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in its latest report has said that Indian airlines recorded domestic passenger traffic of 1.53 crore in May 2026, compared with 1.38 crore in April, reflecting growth of over 11 per cent. The figure was also 9.49 per cent higher than in May 2025. Further, the report said that in May, IndiGo's market share dipped to 64.9 per cent, and that of Air India Group climbed to 25.6 per cent. Akasa Air's market share remained unchanged at 5.8 per cent, whereas SpiceJet saw its market share shrink to 2.5 per cent during the month.
The report stated that passengers carried by domestic airlines during January - May 2026 were 729.40 lakh as against 715.70 lakh during the corresponding period of the previous year, thereby registering an annual growth of 1.91 per cent and monthly growth of 9.49 per cent. In terms of On Time Performance (OTP) at the 10 major airports in May, IndiGo topped the list at 82.8 per cent, followed by Akasa Air and Air India Group at 78.3 per cent and 74.5 per cent, respectively. Alliance Air's OTP stood at 70.5 per cent while that of SpiceJet was 26.5 per cent.
Besides, it mentioned the overall cancellation rate of scheduled domestic airlines stood at 0.55 per cent in May. In May, 63,723 passengers were affected by flight cancellations and airlines shelled out Rs 70.32 lakh towards compensation and facilities. Flight delays impacted more than 1.77 lakh passengers, and airlines spent a little over Rs 4.24 crore towards facilitation.
The CNX Nifty is currently trading at 24245.20, down by 153.50 points or 0.63% after trading in a range of 24207.20 and 24295.25. There were 12 stocks advancing against 38 stocks declining on the index.
The top gainers on Nifty were Hindalco Industries up by 0.85%, Dr. Reddy's Labs. up by 0.80%, Wipro up by 0.77%, Adani Enterprises up by 0.71% and Sun Pharma. Inds. up by 0.46%. On the flip side, Shriram Finance down by 2.65%, JIO Financial Serv. down by 2.60%, ITC down by 2.56%, Eicher Motors down by 2.36% and Interglobe Aviation down by 2.32% were the top losers.
Asian markets were trading mixed; Nikkei 225 slipped 591.96 points or 0.87% to 67,665.00, Taiwan Weighted lost 101.38 points or 0.22% to 45,377.73, Jakarta Composite plunged 63 points or 1.05% to 5,923.50 and KOSPI dropped 368.10 points or 4.81% to 7,288.21.
On the flip side, Hang Seng advanced 523.11 points or 2.18% to 24,020.00, Straits Times rose 59.77 points or 1.12% to 5,402.01 and Shanghai Composite strengthened 9.46 points or 0.24% to 3,999.70.
