Snapping its two-day losing streak, the Indian equity benchmark Nifty ended higher on Thursday on account of value buying after the previous session's correction. Index made a positive start following optimistic cues from other Asian markets, and foreign fund inflow. As per NSE data, foreign institutional investors bought equities worth Rs 1,962.80 crore on July 8, 2026. Soon, market extended its gains as India and the Maldives have concluded negotiations for a bilateral investment treaty (BIT), and the text is undergoing legal scrubbing before the deal is signed. The two countries are also accelerating negotiations for a proposed free trade agreement (FTA) to further strengthen economic ties. However, in last leg of the session, the market witnessed some profit booking but ended in the green ahead of the kickoff of the Q1FY27 earnings season.
Most of the sectorial indices ended in green except IT and Auto stocks. The top gainers from the F&O segment were Kalyan Jewellers India, Swiggy and Lodha Developers. On the other hand, the top losers were Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, Solar Industries India and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders. In the index option segment, maximum OI continues to be seen in the 24900 - 25100 calls and 23900 - 24100 puts indicating this is the trading range expectation.
