Benchmarks continued to trade deep in negative territory as tensions between Unites States (US) and Iran flared up after US military conducted strikes against Iran third consecutive night. Further, US President Donald Trump has reinstated a blockade of Iranian shipping and proposed charging a 20% fee to guard the Strait of Hormuz. These tensions in West Asia have spiked up the global crude oil prices with Brent crude oil prices trading above $86 a barrel. Further, net selling worth of Rs 3,062.27 crore by the foreign institutional investors on Monday’s session spread caution among the investors. Besides, traders stay away from any risky bets ahead of weekly expiry of Nifty F&O contracts.
On the global front, Asian equity markets were trading mostly in green as upbeat Chinese trade data helped offset concerns over escalating military clashes between the US and Iran. European equity markets were trading mostly in red as surging crude oil prices raised inflation concerns.
