Firm trade persists over Dalal Street

A firm trade persisted over the Dalal Street in early afternoon deals, with both Sensex and Nifty holding notable gains, on account of positive cues from other Asian markets along with heavy buying at Capital Goods and Banking counters after U.S. President Donald Trump backed away from his threat to charge a 20 percent toll on all cargo going through the Strait of Hormuz and data showed U.S. headline and core inflation eased in June, prompting traders to scale back their expectations for Federal Reserve rate hikes this year. Traders took a note of the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) latest data report on ECB/FCCB showing that Indian companies raised around $4.74 billion through external commercial borrowings (ECBs) in the month of May 2026. This was higher than $3.77 billion raised in April 2026. 

On the global front, Asian markets were trading mostly in green, after Japan's tertiary activity index increased for the second straight month in May. According to data from the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry, the seasonally adjusted tertiary activity index rose 1.1 percent on a monthly basis, following 0.8 percent recovery in April.

The BSE Sensex is currently trading at 77459.34, up by 404.40 points or 0.52% after trading in a range of 77072.53 and 77646.27. There were 21 stocks advancing against 9 stocks declining on the index.

The top gaining sectoral indices on the BSE were Capital Goods up by 1.13%, Bankex up by 0.95%, Consumer Durables up by 0.81%, Consumer Disc up by 0.76% and Auto up by 0.73%, while Utilities down by 0.99%, IT down by 0.39%, Metal down by 0.36%, TECK down by 0.30% and FMCG down by 0.26% were the top losing indices on BSE.

The top gainers on the Sensex were Eternal up by 3.04%, Ultratech Cement up by 2.47%, Bajaj Finance up by 2.14%, State Bank of India up by 2.04% and Interglobe Aviation up by 1.80%. On the flip side, Power Grid down by 1.89%, Infosys down by 1.01%, Hindustan Unilever down by 0.96%, Larsen & Toubro down by 0.75% and NTPC down by 0.52% were the top losers.

Meanwhile, the industry body -- Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has said that domestic passenger vehicle dispatches from companies to dealers grew 24.1% on year-on-year basis to 3,88,144 units in June 2026. Passenger vehicle dispatches stood at 3,12,851 units in June 2025.

Further, total two-wheeler sales increased 18.6% to 18,51,400 units in June 2026 as compared to 15,61,283 units in June last year. Besides, three-wheeler dispatches to dealers have seen a surge of 26.1% in June this year at 77,951 units as against 61,828 units in the year-ago period.

Meanwhile, total dispatches (passenger vehicle, two-wheeler, three-wheeler) from companies to dealers grew by 19.71% at 2,317,495 units in June 2026, as compared to 1,935,962 units in the corresponding month of previous year.

The CNX Nifty is currently trading at 24160.10, up by 108.05 points or 0.45% after trading in a range of 24069.05 and 24220.35. There were 31 stocks advancing against 19 stocks declining on the index.

The top gainers on Nifty were Eternal up by 3.02%, Ultratech Cement up by 2.40%, Shriram Finance up by 2.37%, Bajaj Finance up by 1.94% and HDFC Life Insurance up by 1.84%. On the flip side, Power Grid down by 2.04%, Hindalco Industries down by 1.26%, Infosys down by 1.16%, JSW Steel down by 1.07% and Dr. Reddy's Labs. down by 0.98% were the top losers.

Asian markets were trading mostly in green; Jakarta Composite gained 29.97 points or 0.5% to 6,069.49, KOSPI increased 427.58 points or 5.87% to 7,284.41, Taiwan Weighted added 893.64 points or 1.96% to 45,631.59, Hang Seng advanced 326.27 points or 1.34% to 24,667.00, Nikkei 225 surged 978.5 points or 1.42% to 68,722.00 and Straits Times rose 47.61 points or 0.87% to 5,543.22, while Shanghai Composite weakened 11.55 points or 0.29% to 3,955.58.
