Indian equity benchmark -- Nifty exhibited a strong performance on Friday, garnering gains of over a percent, despite weak cues from the global markets. The index made a positive start of the day, as Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said that India and the European Union (EU) have agreed to sign the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) by the end of calendar year 2026. He noted that the pact is likely to come into force in the first quarter of 2027, likely during February-March. He added that the agreement would create a wide range of opportunities for businesses on both sides. Market remained higher for the whole day with the gaining rally extending in the last hour of the day. Traders got some support with report that the government is planning to introduce the MSMEs Development (Amendment) Bill, 2026 and put it to a vote in the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament, with an aim to enhance ease of doing business for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
Traders were seen piling up positions in Private Bank, IT and Realty stocks, while selling was witnessed in Pharma, Metal and Consumer Durables. The top gainers from the F&O segment were The Federal Bank, Kalyan Jewellers India and Bharat Forge. On the other hand, the top losers were Torrent Pharmaceuticals, Hitachi Energy India and GE Vernova T&D India. In the index option segment, maximum OI continues to be seen in the 24900 - 25100 calls and 23900 - 24100 puts indicating this is the trading range expectation.
India Volatility Index (VIX), a gauge for market’s short-term expectation of volatility increased by 2.07% and reached 13.15. The 50 share Nifty up by 261.55 point or 1.09% to settle at 24,334.30.
