JSW Steel’s crude steel production up 2% in October

25 Nov 2011 Evaluate

JSW Steel has reported crude steel production of 5.70 lakh tonnes, with a growth of 2% for October 2011 compared to that of corresponding month in the last fiscal year and 20% sequentially.

The company has posted a growth of 5% in production of Rolled Products (Flat) at 4.35 lakh tonnes in October 2011 compared to 4.17 lakh tonnes during October 2010. However, the company has witnessed a decline of 8% in production of Rolled Products (Long) at 0.93 lakh tonnes in October 2011 compared to 1.01 lakh tonnes during October 2010.

The company's Vijayanagar unit operated only at an average capacity utilization rate of 63% during October 2011 due to shortage of iron ore. Even though the company procured iron ore in the E-auctions, the availability of ore at plant remains a bottleneck due to procedural delays and logistical constraints in movement of ore.

JSW Steel is part of the JSW group which, in turn, is a part of the O P Jindal group. JSW Steel is one of the largest steel manufacturing companies in India having units in Karnataka and Maharashtra producing crude steel, long steel and flat steel products.
