New foodgrain godown of 5000 MT capacity inaugurated in Manipur

The Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution K.V.Thomas has inaugurated a new granary of 5000 MT capacity in Manipur on November 13, 2013. The Chief Minister of Manipur was also present on the occasion.

Food Corporation of India (FCI), the central nodal agency for procurement and distribution of foodgrains, has currently got five depots which are operational in the state with a capacity of 33,090 MTs. With this FCI is effectively serving the needs of 406,593 PDS beneficiaries through annual induction of about 2.35 lakh MT of foodgrains to Manipur despite geographical and infrastructural bottlenecks.

Further, after the construction of seven new FCI godowns in the state storage capacity will increase to 37,500 MTs and every revenue district in the state will have at least one FCI godown.
