Key gauges continue to trade lower in morning deals

20 Jul 2026 Evaluate

Indian equity benchmarks continued to trade lower in morning deals, dragged by selling in Banking and Realty stocks and a sharp spike in crude oil prices due to the ongoing tensions between the US and Iran. Traders overlooked Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal’s statement that India and the European Union (EU) are working on the proposed investment protection and GI (Geographical Indications) agreement after concluding a free trade agreement. Traders also paid no heed towards the commerce ministry’s data showing that Asean and African regions emerged as the biggest contributors to India's export growth during the first two months of the current fiscal. During April-May 2026-27, exports rose 16.09 per cent year-on-year to $88.91 billion. On the global front, Asian markets are trading mostly in green despite the broadly negative cues from Wall Street on Friday amid escalating geopolitical tension in the Middle East after the U.S.-Iran conflict grows wider, with the U.S. targeting Iran civil infrastructures.
