Alstom T&D India has been awarded two air-insulated substation projects by Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (AP Transco) to strengthen the power supply in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The total value of the contracts is approximately Rs 130 crore (€18 million).

Andhra Pradesh is the third largest state in India, with a population of more than 84 million people. To meet the growing demand for power, the state government added nearly 6,000 MW of installed capacity over the five years 2007-2012, and aims to add a further 17,000 MW by 2017. Alstom’s 400 kV air-insulated substations will help meet energy demand by transporting the power produced at Hinduja National Power Corporation (HNPCL) 1,040 MW coal-based thermal power plant in Vishakhapatnam district across the state of Andhra Pradesh.

The scope of work for both these substations includes the design, engineering, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of 400/220/132 kV air-insulated substations. The first order worth Rs 66.90 crore (approximately €9 million) is to supply of the 400 kV air-insulated substation at Suryapet in Nalgonda district. The second order is worth Rs 63.30 crore (more than €8 million) and covers the supply of the Kamavarapukota 400 kV air-insulated substation in the West Godavari district. This substation has a transformation capacity of 2x315 MVA.
