Rajya Sabha Chairman, C.P. Radhakrishnan administered the oath of office and secrecy to nine newly elected/ re-elected Members of the Upper House. The ceremony took place on the opening day of the Monsoon session.
Five Members took oath in Hindi, two in English and two in Bengali. Three Members are from the state of West Bengal and one each from Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Rajasthan.
Those who took the oath of office include Mukeshbhai J Rathwa (BJP-Gujarat), Pawan Khera (Congress-Karnataka), Mahesh Kewat (BJP, Madhya Pradesh), Jamesh Pangsang Kongkal Sangma (NPP-Meghalaya), Khiangte Laltluagkima (Mizoram), Satish Poonia (BJP-Rajasthan), Prakash Chik Baraik (BJP-West Bengal), Sushmita Dev (BJP-West Bengal) and Sukhendu Sekhar Ray (BJP-West Bengal). Following the swearing-in, the new members assumed their formal responsibilities to participate in the House's proceedings.
The swearing-in ceremony was held in the presence of senior Rajya Sabha Secretariat officials and other dignitaries. Many other elected members had already taken their oath earlier, before the beginning of Monsoon Session.
