Indian rupee has softened marginally against the US dollar on Monday as foreign institutional investors (FIIs) continued to pull out capital from Indian markets. FIIs were the net sellers on Friday’s session, offloading securities worth Rs 376.41 crore. However, investors remained optimistic amid fall in crude global crude prices as Iran indicated that backchannel diplomacy with the US remains active despite the clashes. The Brent crude oil prices have decreased by around 2% to trade near $86 a barrel mark. On the global front, the British pound has strengthened against the US dollar on Monday as Andy Burnham officially became the UK's Prime Minister.
Finally, the rupee ended at 96.36 (Provisional), weakened by 6 paise from its previous close of 96.30 on Friday. The currency touched a high and low of 96.53 and 96.35 respectively.
