Sowing of Rabi crops exceeds 223 lakh hectare area

The sowing of Rabi crops has been very brisk in the last one week as per preliminary reports received on the sowing of crops from different states. The total rabi sown area during the week ending November 14, 2013 stands at 223.27 lakh hectare as compared to 210.41 lakh hectare at this time last year.

Total Pulses have been sown in 75.72 lakh hectare so far in the current Rabi season as compared to 63.23 lakh hectare sown in 2012-13 season. Sugarcane has been planted in 1.02 lakh hectare as compared to 2.55 lakh hectare sown last year. Besides, oilseeds have been sown in 53.93 lakh hectare as compared to 43.94 lakh hectare last year.

Further, wheat has been sown in 58.25 lakh hectare so far compared to 64.73 lakh hectare last year while coarse cereals has been sown in 33.84 lakh hectare so far compared to 35.44 lakh hectare sown last year. Rabi rice has been sown in 0.52 lakh hectare.
