Leaders of several opposition parties staged a protest on the Parliament House premises, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The protest was led by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and its general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, several opposition MPs. Members of the INDIA bloc gathered at Parliament's Makar Dwar holding placards and banners reading ‘Barkhaast Karo Pradhan Ko’, with slogans calling for Pradhan's dismissal over the alleged paper leak that has gripped the Monsoon Session.
Congress reiterated what it described as the three demands of the country's youth: the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan, action against those responsible for the alleged violence on student protesters, and an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The protest came after Prime Minister Modi announced that the Union Cabinet would consider a draft Bill proposing fast-track courts and stricter punishment for those involved in examination paper leaks, while assuring that tougher action would be taken against offenders. Modi also said that no one will be allowed to play with the future of youth.
