Copper futures trade lower despite easing tensions in middle east

27 Jul 2026 Evaluate
Copper futures were trading lower on Monday, even as easing tensions in the Middle East restored some risk appetite to the industrial metals sector by alleviating immediate fears of energy-driven inflation and demand-destroying interest rate hikes. Investors are closely watching this week's Federal Reserve policy meeting, where officials are widely expected to leave benchmark interest rates unchanged at 3.50%-3.75%. Markets are also tracking upcoming Q2 US GDP growth figures, US PCE inflation data, as well as earnings from major US companies for fresh insights into the strength of the economy.

Copper futures for September delivery fell $0.0160 or 0.25% at $6.3415 a pound on the Comex metals division of New York Mercantile Exchange.
