Nifty slips nearly 0.8%; Sensex remains flat during late morning deals

Domestic equity indices remained mixed in late morning deals. The Sensex gained 39.60 points, while the Nifty plunged 188.40 points. The divergence in the Sensex’s and Nifty’s performance today is on account of what happened in the index constituents during the first-ever closing auction session (CAS) on Monday. Meanwhile, investors tracked the latest developments in the U.S.-Iran conflict and looked forward to the upcoming RBI's monetary policy decision for directional cues. On the BSE sectoral front, traders accumulated positions in Capital Goods, Metal, Industrials, Power, and Consumer Durables, while selling was witnessed in IT, TECK, Bankex, and Energy. 

On the global front, Asian markets were trading mostly in green following positive cues from the US markets overnight. In the stock specific development, KEI Industries surged as the company reported a 40.05% jump in its net profit at Rs 274.14 crore for the first quarter ended June 30, 2026 (Q1FY27), as compared to Rs 195.75 crore for the same quarter in the previous year. 

The BSE Sensex is currently trading at 78678.63, up by 39.60 points or 0.05% after trading in a range of 78627.76 and 79143.15. There were 19 stocks advancing against 11 stocks declining on the index.

The top gaining sectoral indices on the BSE were Capital Goods up by 1.30%, Metal up by 0.93%, Industrials up by 0.87%, Power up by 0.75% and Consumer Durables up by 0.67%, while IT down by 0.24%, TECK down by 0.16%, Bankex down by 0.04% and Energy down by 0.08% were the losing top indices on BSE.

The top gainers on the Sensex were Asian Paints up by 1.63%, Tata Steel up by 1.24%, Mahindra & Mahindra up by 1.21%, Trent up by 1.21% and Bharat Electronics up by 1.17%. On the flip side, Infosys down by 1.11%, HDFC Bank down by 0.92%, Hindustan Unilever down by 0.68%, Reliance Industries down by 0.56% and Tech Mahindra down by 0.34% were the top losers.

Meanwhile, India and Uzbekistan have agreed to deepen their strategic partnership by expanding cooperation in defence, trade, mining, energy, infrastructure, education, and culture. The decision was taken during a comprehensive review of bilateral ties held by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Uzbekistan's Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov. The two leaders also discussed key regional challenges and exchanged views on expanding their multilateral cooperation. 

Jaishankar said India considers Uzbekistan as part of its extended neighbourhood. He noted that bilateral trade currently stands at nearly $1 billion and expressed confidence that it would grow significantly in the coming years. He also emphasized India's interest in expanding cooperation in the mining sector.

He further said India and Uzbekistan share common perspectives on several regional and global issues, particularly when it comes to confronting terrorism, extremism, and drug trafficking. He said ‘we deeply appreciate that the government and people of Uzbekistan have taken a strong stand against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations’.  

The CNX Nifty is currently trading at 24585.90, down by 188.40 points or 0.76% after trading in a range of 24569.00 and 24703.90. There were 15 stocks advancing against 35 stocks declining on the index.

The top gainers on Nifty were Trent up by 1.40%, Hindalco Industries up by 1.14%, JIO Financial up by 0.76%, Apollo Hospital up by 0.56% and Maruti Suzuki India up by 0.44%. On the flip side, Grasim Industries down by 3.08%, HDFC Life down by 2.50%, Bajaj Auto down by 2.46%, Titan Company down by 2.04% and Infosys down by 1.75% were the top losers.

Asian markets are trading mostly in green; Nikkei 225 surged 125.1 points or 0.2% to 63,880.00, Jakarta Composite gained 35.66 points or 0.57% to 6,270.16, Shanghai Composite strengthened 20.62 points or 0.54% to 3,830.28 and Straits Times rose 15.86 points or 0.28% to 5,628.14. However, Taiwan Weighted lost 157.85 points or 0.37% to 43,228.56, KOSPI increased 32.43 points or 0.52% to 6,289.88 and Hang Seng declined 194.4 points or 0.75% to 25,815.00.
