Copper futures end lower on Thursday

07 Aug 2026 Evaluate
Copper futures ended lower on Thursday, driven by strong dollar overseas with caution ahead of Friday's closely watched US jobs report for fresh signals on labour market strength and the outlook for Federal Reserve monetary policy. Although, some falls were limited by tight mine supply in Chile, export suspensions in the Democratic Republic of Congo, booming demand for AI data centre infrastructure, and robust US buying ahead of possible federal tariffs on refined copper.

Copper futures for September delivery fell $0.0185 to settle at $6.7090 a pound on the Comex metals division of New York Mercantile Exchange. Copper on the London Metal Exchange was down by 0.05% at $14,103.50 a ton.
