Indian equity markets languished near the neutral lines with a positive bias in late afternoon session. Spark in global crude oil prices have seems to have made trader nervous. Brent crude oil prices were trading above the $84 a barrel mark as Iran and Oman yet to reach an agreement with regards to management of the Strait of Hormuz, while Houthis claimed another attack on Saudi Aramco's refinery. However, investors remained optimistic as Economic Affairs Secretary Anuradha Thakur said that private sector investment is witnessing steady and sustained growth, supported by the government’s continued focus on capital expenditure.
The BSE Sensex was trading marginally up as buying among financial services, metals and consumer durable counters offset the pressure from selling among Banking and Utility sector stocks. Titan Company was leading the gainers on BSE as it reported 62.88% jump in its consolidated net profit at Rs 1,777 crore for Q1FY27 as compared to Rs 1,091 crore for the same quarter in the previous year.
The Nifty 50 was also trading just above the neutral line supported by buying among FMCG and financial services stocks. Further, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) turned net buyers in Indian equities on August 7, 2026 after two consecutive sessions of selling, with net buying of securities worth Rs 480.24 crore.
On the global front, Asian equity markets were trading mostly in green as softer US jobs data easing worries related to an immediate U.S. interest-rate hike. European equity markets were trading mostly in red amid lingering uncertainty over reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
The BSE Sensex is currently trading at 78520.08, up by 20.91 points or 0.03% after trading in a range of 78298.92 and 78676.98. There were 18 stocks advancing against 12 stocks declining on the index.
The top gaining sectoral indices on the BSE were Realty up by 1.74%, Consumer Durables up by 0.91%, Basic Materials up by 0.45%, Metal up by 0.42% and Industrials up by 0.37%, while PSU down by 0.96%, Utilities down by 0.55%, Bankex down by 0.32%, Energy down by 0.25% and Healthcare down by 0.11% were the top losing indices on BSE.
The top gainers on the Sensex were Titan Company up by 2.71%, Tata Steel up by 1.44%, Bajaj Finserv up by 1.26%, Asian Paints up by 1.19% and Bajaj Finance up by 1.18%. On the flip side, State Bank of India down by 1.73%, NTPC down by 1.42%, Tech Mahindra down by 0.90%, ITC down by 0.88% and Eternal down by 0.60% were the top losers.
Meanwhile, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in its latest report titled ‘Sectoral Deployment of Credit by NBFC - June 2026’ has showed that non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) maintained a credit momentum in June 2026, with credit growth accelerating to 14.4%, well above the 11.1% recorded a year earlier. The Data for the month of June 2026 is collected from major NBFCs and housing finance companies (HFCs).
According to the data of the sectoral deployment of credit by NBFCs for the month ended June 30, 2026, credit in agriculture and allied activities recorded a robust growth of 17.9 per cent (y-o-y) in June 2026 as against 5.1 per cent a year ago, while credit to industry grew by 6.7 per cent (y-o-y) in June 2026 as compared with 10.3 per cent in June 2025, primarily driven by subdued growth in infrastructure, a major constituent of the segment.
Besides, the report noted that credit growth in services sector moderated to 17.6 per cent (y-o-y) in June 2026 as against 22.4 per cent a year ago. While credit in ‘commercial real estate’ marked buoyant expansion, credit growth in ‘trade’ and ‘transport operators’ segments witnessed moderation. Further, retail loans growth accelerated to 20.3 per cent (y-o-y) in June 2026 compared to 14.3 per cent a year ago. Within retail loans, ‘housing’, ‘vehicle’ and ‘loans against gold jewellery’ segments displayed robust credit growth.
The CNX Nifty is currently trading at 24582.45, up by 11.80 points or 0.05% after trading in a range of 24511.10 and 24620.95. There were 26 stocks advancing against 24 stocks declining on the index.
The top gainers on Nifty were Tata Consumer Products up by 2.43%, Titan Company up by 2.36%, Bajaj Finance up by 1.96%, Grasim Industries up by 1.94% and Shriram Finance up by 1.67%. On the flip side, State Bank of India down by 1.91%, Eternal down by 1.38%, ITC down by 1.17%, Wipro down by 1.10% and NTPC down by 0.93% were the top losers.
Asian equity markets were trading mostly in green; Nikkei 225 surged 1283.29 points or 1.92% to 66,890.00, Taiwan Weighted added 702.85 points or 1.56% to 44,928.76, Hang Seng advanced 297.97 points or 1.15% to 25,966.00, KOSPI increased 40.89 points or 0.65% to 6,299.66 and Shanghai Composite strengthened 26.55 points or 0.67% to 3,966.59, while Jakarta Composite plunged 24.05 points or 0.38% to 6,385.60.
European equity markets were trading mostly in red; UK’s FTSE 100 decreased 32.97 points or 0.3% to 10,868.12 and France’s CAC fell 16.93 points or 0.19% to 8,698.00, while Germany’s DAX gained 81.15 points or 0.31% to 26,400.60.
