Rupee shows mild strength against US dollar on Wednesday

12 Aug 2026 Evaluate

Indian rupee has shown mild strength against the US dollar on Wednesday as foreign institutional investors (FIIs) continued to invest capital in Indian markets. FIIs were the net buyers of securities worth Rs 258.55 crore on Tuesday’s session. However, higher global crude oil prices have weighed on investor risk sentiment with Brent crude oil trading near $89 per barrel mark. Further, traders took cautious stance after India’s retail inflation rose to 4.45% (Provisional) in July 2026 from 4.38% (Final) in June 2026, as food prices remained elevated. The latest reading marks the sixth consecutive monthly increase in inflation. On the global front, the New Zealand dollar has weakened against the US dollar on Wednesday as trader waited for release of US CPI report for fresh clues on the Federal Reserve’s interest-rate path.

Finally, the rupee ended at 95.33 (Provisional), strengthened by 3 paise from its previous close of 95.36 on Tuesday. The currency touched a high and low of 95.43 and 95.24 respectively.
