Indian equity benchmark -- Nifty ended lower fifth consecutive session owing to sharp fall in IT and Tech stocks. Index made a flat-to-negative start but soon, extended its losses as elevated crude oil prices and uncertainty over reopening of Strait of Hormuz. Besides, traders were cautious with preliminary data from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) showing that India’s current account deficit stood at $6.2 billion in June, compared with a surplus of $1.2 billion in the year-ago month. However, in second half of the session, the index recovered from the day’s low and traded near the neutral line as market participants found some support from renewed foreign fund inflows. As per exchange data, foreign institutional investors bought Indian equities worth Rs 508.12 crore on August 14. The Index extended its decline towards the end of the session, closing below the 24,300 level.
Traders were seen piling up positions in Realty, Metal and Media stocks, while selling was witnessed in IT, FMCG and Consumer Durables. The top gainers from the F&O segment were Inox Wind, Motilal Oswal Financial Services and Oberoi Realty. On the other hand, the top losers were Voltas, BSE and Vodafone Idea. In the index option segment, maximum OI continues to be seen in the 24900 - 25100 calls and 23900 - 24100 puts indicating this is the trading range expectation.
