Indian rupee weakened against US dollar on Monday pressured by the delay in the deal between the US and Iran and rising crude oil prices. Investors' sentiment turned cautious after the Reserve Bank of India said that its swap facility for FCNR (B) deposits will be available only for deposits mobilised till August 31. Weakness in equity markets also dampened traders’ mood. Traders overlooked the commerce ministry’s data showing that India's exports to key free trade agreement (FTA) partner countries recorded robust growth in the first quarter of 2026-27 (Q1FY27), with shipments to Singapore and Sri Lanka more than doubling. On the global front, the dollar fell to its lowest level in more than two months on Monday as traders trimmed U.S. rate hike bets against the backdrop of a run of softer economic data, leaving the euro at two-month highs and the battered yen on stronger ground for now.
Finally, the rupee ended at 95.61 (Provisional), weaker by 19 paise from its previous close of 95.42 on Friday. The currency touched a high and low of 95.68 and 95.49 respectively.
