Rupee shows mild strength against US dollar on Monday

24 Aug 2026 Evaluate

Indian rupee has shown mild strength against US dollar on Monday with softer dollar demand offsetting impact of high crude oil prices. Brent crude oil prices continued to trade above the $90 a barrel mark amid lingering tension between US and Iran over war in West Asia. Rupee started the session on a stronger note as compared with its Friday’s close as investors remained optimistic after Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has said the amendment in certain provisions of the Foreign Trade Policy to make it easier for exporters to invoice overseas sales and receive payments in Indian rupees. However, high crude oil prices and elevated bond yields across the globe have dimmed market risk sentiment. On the global front, euro has weakened against US dollar on Monday as traders awaited details of US sanctions on Iran.

Finally, the rupee ended at 95.70 (Provisional), strengthened by 1 paisa from its previous close of 95.71 on Friday. The currency touched a high and low of 95.75 and 95.64 respectively.
