Nifty ends lower for second straight session on Thursday

27 Aug 2026 Evaluate

Extending its losses for the second consecutive session, Nifty ended lower, with cut of nearly half a percent on Thursday. The index made a positive start, tracking the continued fall in crude oil prices, as traders remained optimistic about a potential Iran-Oman agreement on sharing the Strait of Hormuz route. But soon, the index wiped out all its gains and slipped into negative territory as caution grew after U.S. inflation rose more than expected in July, adding uncertainty to the Federal Reserve’s September policy decision. In second half of the session, the index continued to trade sluggishly in the red until the end of the session, driven by sell-off across almost all sectors. Finally, Nifty ended below 24,100 mark.

Most of the sectorial indices ended in green led by Cement, PSU Bank, and Media stocks. The top gainers from the F&O segment were Bharat Heavy Electricals, CG Power and Industrial Solutions and Delhivery. On the other hand, the top losers were Manappuram Finance, Container Corporation of India and Muthoot Finance. In the index option segment, maximum OI continues to be seen in the 24900 - 25100 calls and 23900 - 24100 puts indicating this is the trading range expectation.
