Coal India reports 5.7% fall in coal production during August

Coal India has reported fall of 5.7% in coal production to 47.5 million tonnes (MT) (Provisional) during August 2026 as compared to 50.4 MT (Provisional) in August 2025. It produced 267.5 MT (Provisional) of coal during April- August period of 2026, down 4.5% from 280.2 MT (Provisional) during the same period previous year.  

In August 2026, coal offtake increased by 5.5% to 60.6 MT (Provisional) from 57.4 MT (Provisional) in August 2025. The total offtake of coal during the April- August period of 2026 grew to 322.9 MT (Provisional), up 6.7% from 302.6 MT (Provisional) in the corresponding period last fiscal. 

Coal India is the world’s largest coal mining company. It also produces non-coking coal and coking coal of various grades for diverse applications.
