Nifty ends marginally lower on Tuesday

01 Sep 2026 Evaluate

Extending its losses for the second consecutive session, Nifty ended marginally lower on Tuesday. The index made a flat-to-negative start and extended its losses during the morning session as weak cues from global markets weighed on market sentiment. But in the late morning session, the index recovered from its initial losses and entered positive territory as traders took support from a report stating that India’s economy grew 7.8% in the April-June quarter of 2026-27, beating the RBI’s 7% projection. However, in the second half of the session, the index wiped out all its gains and once again entered negative territory as some caution emerged following the release of the HSBC India Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) survey, which showed that India’s manufacturing activity expanded at its weakest pace in five years in August, as growth in output and new orders slowed amid softer demand conditions. Afterwards, the index trimmed its losses towards the end of the session, closing above the 24,050 level.

Traders were seen piling up positions in IT, FMCG and Oil & Gas stocks, while selling was witnessed in Pharma, Realty and Consumer Durables. The top gainers from the F&O segment were ITC, Adani Green Energy and Persistent Systems. On the other hand, the top losers were KEI Industries, Polycab India and One 97 Communications. In the index option segment, maximum OI continues to be seen in the 24900 - 25100 calls and 23900 - 24100 puts indicating this is the trading range expectation.
