Nifty ended lower with cut of over half percent on Tuesday. Index made a negative start and remained under pressure till the end of the day, as persistent geopolitical tensions West Aisa sparking crude oil prices above $99 per barrel. Oil prices rose as Iran threatened that any new attacks on Tehran will be met with a retaliation on U.S. assets, warning that energy infrastructure across the Gulf, including U.S. oil and gas interests, was vulnerable. Besides, market participants stayed away from any risky best ahead of weekly expiry of Nifty’s F&O contract. Meanwhile, market participants were concerned as rupee weakened against the dollar at the Inter-bank Foreign Exchange market on account of increased demand for the American currency from importers and banks. Nifty ended below its crucial 23,650 mark.
Traders were seen piling up positions in Media, Pharma and Chemicals stocks, while selling was witnessed in Private Bank, Oil & Gas and Cement. The top gainers from the F&O segment were GE Vernova T&D India, Bandhan Bank and Laurus Labs. On the other hand, the top losers were Bharat Petroleum Corporation, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation and 360 ONE WAM. In the index option segment, maximum OI continues to be seen in the 23900 - 24100 calls and 23900 - 24100 puts indicating this is the trading range expectation.
