Nifty ends lower for third straight session on Wednesday

09 Sep 2026 Evaluate

Indian equity benchmark -- Nifty continued its pessimistic trade for third consecutive day and closed the session below its crucial 23,450 mark on Wednesday. Index made a gap-down start and remained under pressure throughout the day, as traders were concerned with escalated West Asia conflict pushing crude oil prices above $100-a-barrel mark after U.S. military destroyed five Iranian crude tankers in retaliation for attempted attacks on an American warship. Further, traders were cautious as Crisil Ratings’ report said that Rainfall Distortion Index (RDI) records a deficiency score of 14.4 as of September 4, 2026 making this the most spatially distorted monsoon in a decade.

All sectorial indices ended in red. The top gainers from the F&O segment were Adani Enterprises, One 97 Communications and Max Healthcare Institute. On the other hand, the top losers were Coforge, Infosys and Lodha Developers. In the index option segment, maximum OI continues to be seen in the 23900 - 24100 calls and 23900 - 24100 puts indicating this is the trading range expectation.
