This season after the procurement process started from October 1, the states of Punjab and Haryana have procured nearly 179 lakh tonnes (LT) of paddy, as per report compiled by food and supplies department officials. Out of this, nearly 127 LT have been procured in Punjab while over 52 LT procured in Haryana.
In Punjab, over 95% of the paddy arrival has been procured by government agencies while the rest has been procured by private rice sellers and traders. The district of Sangrur, Ludhiana and Patiala were leading in paddy procurement.
In Haryana, nearly 52.07 LT of paddy has so far arrived in the various grain markets. This is higher than the paddy arrival of nearly 49.08 LT in the same period last year. Karnal, Kurukshetra and Kaithal districts were leading in paddy arrivals. The government agencies in Haryana have procured nearly 35.7 LT paddy this year. The rest has been procured by rice millers and traders.
