Nifty ends in deep red amid spike in crude oil prices

08 Oct 2026 Evaluate

India equity benchmark -- Nifty -- ended in deep red on Thursday as crude oil prices spiked sharply amid escalating geopolitical tensions in West Asia. After making a flat-to-negative start, index soon extended its losses and continued their southward trade till the end of the day, on the back of weak cues from other Asian markets amid elevated US bond yields. Besides, index witnessed sharp selloff in all the sectors, as traders remained cautious after foreign institutional investors (FIIs) continued their selling spree, offloading Indian equities worth Rs 6,121.37 crore on September 07. Meanwhile, rupee near record low against US dollar also dampened market sentiments. Finally, Nifty ended below 22,250 mark.

All sectorial indices ended in red. The top gainers from the F&O segment were LIC Housing Finance, ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company and PNB Housing Finance. On the other hand, the top losers were Adani Green Energy, Jubilant Foodworks and Inox Wind. In the index option segment, maximum OI continues to be seen in the 23400 - 23600 calls and 23400 - 23600 puts indicating this is the trading range expectation.
