Copper futures settle higher on supply disruptions in Chile

13 Oct 2026 Evaluate
Copper futures settled higher on Monday due to supply disruptions in top copper producer Chile, where state-owned producer Codelco partially suspended operations at its El Teniente mine after a mudslide killed two workers, compounding an ongoing strike at Antofagasta’s Centinela mine. Copper price gains were capped by a strong US dollar as investors awaited US inflation data for clues on the Federal Reserve’s next interest-rate move.

Copper futures for December delivery rose $0.055 to settle at $6.7470 a pound on the Comex metals division of New York Mercantile Exchange. Copper on the London Metal Exchange was up by 0.54% at $14,618.50 a ton.
