Indian equity benchmark -- Nifty ended lower on Wednesday. After making a flat-to-negative start, the index turned volatile and continued to trade near the neutral line during the first half of the session, as elevated US Treasury yields and crude oil prices kept sentiment cautious. Traders were cautious as foreign institutional investors (FIIs) extended their selling streak, offloading Indian equities worth Rs 1,305.13 crore on October 13, 2026. In second half of the session, the index added losses and remained under pressure until the end of the session as India's wholesale price index (WPI) inflation rose significantly in the month of September 2026 to 11.39%, as compared to 9.92% in August 2026, due to a sharp rise in fuel and power, food and manufactured product prices. Finally, Nifty ended near 22,600 mark.
Traders were seen piling up positions in FMCG, IT and Oil & Gas stocks, while selling was witnessed in Pharma, Auto and Realty. The top gainers from the F&O segment were JSW Energy, Tata Elxsi and Adani Energy Solutions. On the other hand, the top losers were LIC Housing Finance, Bank of Baroda and Shriram Finance. In the index option segment, maximum OI continues to be seen in the 23400 - 23600 calls and 21900 - 22100 puts indicating this is the trading range expectation.
