Emerson Climate Technologies has established its first Cold Chain and Distribution Centre at Chakan near Pune to increase awareness of technology solutions and services available to the industry. This step is also taken to address the country’s cold chain infrastructure needs. The new centre also will provide training to contractors on product selection and technology options appropriate for various refrigeration applications.
India is the world’s second largest producer of fruits and vegetables. The country currently has 6,300 cold storage facilities unevenly spread across the country, with an installed capacity of 30.11 million tonne.
According to a report compiled by Emerson Climate Technologies, India is throwing away fresh produce worth Rs 13,300 crore every year because of the country’s lack of adequate cold storage facilities and refrigerated transport.
