Indian equity markets ended significantly higher on Thursday, supported by broad-based buying across sectors, with information technology stocks leading the rally and banking stocks also posting strong gains.
The BSE Sensex closed over two percent higher, driven by strong buying in index heavyweights ahead of the weekly Sensex derivatives expiry. The Nifty 50 ended over one and a half percent higher, supported by optimism surrounding the ongoing quarterly earnings season and a decline in crude oil prices. However, a late-session pullback indicated some profit-booking at higher levels. Meanwhile, Nestle India emerged as a key laggard on the Nifty 50 following its second-quarter earnings announcement.
