NFDB draws strategies for 6% annual growth in Fisheries

The National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) has drawn up strategies for development of fisheries and aquaculture in the country for achieving the target of 6% annual growth in fish production during 12th Five Year Plan (2012-2017), as per information provided by Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing Industries, Charan Das Mahant.

By the end of 12th Plan period the overall fish production is projected at 115.79 lakh tonnes out of which 79.10 lakh tonnes comes from inland sector and 36.69 lakh tonnes from marine sector.

The current production (2012-13) of fish in the country is estimated at 90.40 lakh tonnes with the contribution of 57.19 lakh tonnes from inland sector and 33.21 lakh tonnes from marine.
