The Government of India expects milk production to touch around 139.68 millin tonnes (MT) in 2013-14, as per information provided by Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing Industries, Charan Das Mahant. The milk production in the country for 2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-2013 stood at 116.4 MT, 121.8 MT, 127.9 MT and 132.43 MT respectively.
The Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries, Government of India does not control the price of milk. This Department is implementing the schemes to enhance the production of milk in the country which also contributes to stabilizing the milk prices.
The following schemes like National Dairy Plan-Phase I, Intensive Dairy Development Programme, Strengthening Infrastructure for Quality and Clean Milk Production, Dairy Entrepreneurship Development Scheme, National Project for Cattle and Buffalo Breeding, Livestock Health and Disease Control and Fodder and Feed Development scheme have been implemented to stabilize the milk prices.
