Parliament adjourned for eighth consecutive day of winter session

Parliament was adjourned once again today as opposition created ruckus over the FDI entry in retail sector. Prime Minister tried to initiate talks with all parties, however, the meeting turned to be futile. The Trinamool Congress, ruling government’s ally said 'our stand remains the same. We want discussion.'

Lok Sabha begin with an obituary reference and a resolution on World AIDS Day, post which speaker Meira Kumar tried to initiate Question hour, however, opposition members created ruckus. Some Trinamool Congress MPs came into the well of the House and shouted slogans against FDI in retail.

The Rajya Sabha too witnessed the same scene soon after Chairman Hamid Ansari called House to order. The entire Opposition was up on its feet shouting slogans against the decision to allow FDI in multi-brand retailing.

Today was the eighth consecutive day of adjournment of both the houses of the world’s largest democracy. Parliament continued to be dysfunctional due to constant ruckus and uproar in both the houses over FDI, price rise and Telangana; upper and lower house has hardly done any substantial business since the beginning of ongoing winter session on November 22, 2011.
