Wipro edges up on plans to expand its operations in West Bengal

Wipro is currently trading at Rs. 404.00, up by 0.25 points or 0.06% from its previous closing of Rs. 403.75 on the BSE.

The scrip opened at Rs. 400.00 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 409.70 and Rs. 398.15 respectively. So far 103215 shares were traded on the counter.

The BSE group 'A' stock of face value Rs. 2 has touched a 52 week high of Rs. 496.30 on 28-Dec-2010 and a 52 week low of Rs. 310.20 on 19-Aug-2011.

Last one week high and low of the scrip stood at Rs. 409.70 and Rs. 379.35 respectively. The current market cap of the company is Rs. 99221.35 crore.

The promoters holding in the company stood at 79.17% while Institutions and Non-Institutions held 9.23% and 9.90% respectively. 

Wipro, India's third largest IT bellwether expressed interest to invest around Rs 700-800 crore to expand its operations in West Bengal. Wipro's Chairman Azim Premji met state’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for discussing the same.

The company is likely to create 15,000 jobs in the new project, which is double the number of those at the company's Salt Lake campus. It also evinced interest in collaborating with the state government for creating paperless offices through the PPP (public private partnership) route.

The entity is likely to acquire 50 acres of land at Rajarhat. Wipro has already deposited 25% of Rs 75 crore for the land and would get the possession of the land, on deposition of full amount.
