The Gujarat wing of Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS) has demanded fixation of MSP for castor seed and castor oil amid lower castor prices. The farmers’ body has appealed to the Central Government to announce minimum support price (MSP) of Rs 70,000 per tonne for Castor Seed and minimum export price (MEP) of $2,000 PMT for Castor Oil.

The prices have tumbled to lower levels which are not remunerative for the growers due to which area under castor seed is shrinking. Against the cost of production at Rs 70,000 a tonne, farmers’ average realization works out to Rs 41,000-44,000 a tonne.

The BKS leaders will take out Kisan Jagriti Abhiyan till February 15 in the castor growing districts of Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Mehsana, Kutch, Ahmedabad, Vadodra and Patan in Gujarat.
