Thrashing government for failing to act against 782 tax offenders, BJP leader L.K. Advani has asked to publicize names of Indians who have illegally saved their wealth in foreign banks amounting to an estimated Rs 25 lakh crore.

'The names of 782 tax evaders are being kept a secret by the (United Progressive Alliance) UPA government. I want your assurance and an oath after the debate that you will come out with the names of tax evaders. Convince the house, convince the nation that you will play all your cards to bring back the black money in foreign banks,' Advani said.

According to Advani, Indians have lodged their black wealth in Swiss Banks due to high tax rates in our country. Approximately, Rs 25 lakh crore is outside country as per a Global Financial Integrity report. The BJP leader had moved an adjournment motion in Lok Sabha highlighting 'failure of the government' to bring back the black money.

The Swiss banks officials have confirmed that Indians are the largest depositors of illegal foreign money in their country. Wikileaks founder Julian Assange had sustained the same. Further, the Supreme Court of India in January 2011 had questioned on not disclosing names of Indians who have deposited wealth in Liechtenstein Bank. The court had also questioned on pro-activeness of government for acting against tax evaders.
