ABB plans to enter into rural market with its Solar Pump Drive

28 Mar 2014 Evaluate

ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, is planning to enter into rural market with its Solar Pump Drive, which is capable of replacing the conventional water pumps that are run by diesel or electricity. With over 300 sunny days a year; the Solar Pump Drive will help Indian farmers maximize the benefits of solar power, while reducing dependency on the grid. It is ideal for remote areas that are not grid connected or where power availability is capital intensive, and will also help offset the cost of diesel gensets.

By entering into rural market, the company expects its sales to grow by 20-25% over the next couple of years. Discrete Automation and Motion division of the company had launched the Solar Pump Drive product about six months back. The pumps come in two categories single-phase and three-phase motors, which would run with the power generated from the solar panels.

ABB is a leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility and industry customers to improve their performance while lowering environmental impact. The ABB Group of companies operates in around 100 countries and employs more than 150,000 people
