Tata Steel introduces rainwater harvesting structure

14 Jun 2011 Evaluate

Tata Steel, world`s second most geographically diversified steel producer, has launched a scientific Rainwater Harvesting System to check the depletion of ground water level. The project will be operational at Joda East Iron Mine (JEIM) in Keonjhar district and will be launched soon.

Post a technical feasibility study by M/s KRG Rainwater Foundation, Chennai the scientific system is introduced. The initiative is first of its kind in the locality to increase the ground water status both in terms of quantity and quality, in and around the mining area. A large Storage cum Percolation Pond (SCP) has been constructed at a favorable location. A large diameter recovery well with scientifically designed weep holes are on the north eastern corner of SCP where the ground water flow lines converge.

Through the recovery structure the stored water from the SCP would be recovered and through suitable diversion arrangements the run-off water from various directions has been directed to the SCP.  Recharge zones have been identified on the southern side of the SCP and a large size percolation pond has been constructed with a beautiful park adjacent to it.

mJunction a 50:50 joint venture between Tata Steel and Steel Authority of India and the country's largest e-commerce company is expecting the total e-transaction business to double to Rs 50,000 crore by 2014. The company is expecting sharp growth in business and the e-procurement arm ‘buyjunction’ will be main growth driver.
