About Sagar Tourist Resorts Ltd

The Sagar Group of Companies was founded in 1950 by Late Dr Ramanand Sagar, the prolific film-maker, writer and producer who gave the world masterpieces like the Ramayana (which is estimated to have been seen by 650 million people worldwide); Shri Krishna and super hit family-oriented movies like Aankhen, Arzoo and Geet.

The Sagar ‘Parivar’ ventured into the hospitality business in the early nineties with their flagship property called Sagar Tourist Resort in the Himalayan town of Manali in Himachal Pradesh in the year 1987. This was followed shortly with a heritage property, called Sagar Ganga Resort, on the banks of the Holy Ganga, in the popular pilgrimage destination Haridwar in Uttarakhand. The plan of location of their hotels and properties is parallel to the philosophy of the Sagar group as it has strong links with Indian culture.

The third property, called Sagar World is the first of the nine projects planned under the umbrella of the Sagar Group of Companies in Sagar Theme Parks Pvt. Ltd. The big picture is to accomplish a chain of spiritual and mythological theme parks all over India and the world with the brand equity of the Sagar Group whose founder was Late Dr Ramanand Sagar.

Sagar Ganga Resort-Haridwar

Haridwar is situated at the base of the Shivalik hills, where the Ganga, races down from the mighty Himalayas meeting the plains. Haridwar literally is 'The gateway to the Gods'. It is one of the places where the Kumbh Mela, one of the largest congregations in the world is held periodically. Haridwar is also one of India’s Moksapuris- Seven Sacred Cities, where moksha or spiritual liberation may be attained more easily. Hindus bring the ashes of their departed family members here to ensure their salvation. An extensive ritual is performed then called the “Pind Daan” by a priest. Lord Vishnu is said to have left his footprints on one of the banks of Haridwar, which is now called Har-ki-Pauri, a spot that is constantly washed by the waves of the Holy Ganga.

Sagar World Theme Park

The Sagar World project is the first of the 9 projects planned under the umbrella of the Sagar Group of Companies in Sagar Theme Parks Pvt. Ltd. The big picture is to accomplish a chain of spiritual and mythological theme parks all over India and the world with the brand equity of the Sagar serials and the founder of the group Late Dr. Ramanand Sagar. The Sagar serials like the Ramayana have been seen by millions of people all over the world and the Sagar Family is the pioneer in the space of historical and mythological programming on Indian television.

The project is being planned in phases. The first phase of the project is a 3-star hotel of 40 rooms + a 2-star hotel with 20 rooms and a film canteen catering to the immediate needs of the upcoming Sagar-NDTV Film City on 30 acres of land on the outskirts of Navi Mumbai just opposite the Sagar World project. The second phase will consists of a 4-star hotel and resort with 50 rooms spread over 10 acres of land catering to a higher end crowd of the film city and from Mumbai city the resort will have an artificial beach, two conference halls, two restaurants (film caf), health club, spa and a bar.

The third phase will be the theme park area spread on another 10 acres of land alongside the hotel blocks consisting of animated mythological rides from the famous serials like Ramayan, Shri Krishna, Ganga, Vikram Aur Betal and more recently Sai Baba and Prithvi Raj Chauhan. This phase will also include amphi-theatres for live performances, food courts serving Ayurvedic food, One-Stop-Shops selling spiritual items, Miniature Temples of India etc. Also as newer serials and films are churned out at the nearby Sagar-NDTV Film City, the sets of those can double as attractions for the theme park could incorporate those themes into rides.Once it has been popularized this concept can be franchised all over India and eventually all over the world in pockets where there is large Indian population base and/or interest in Indian culture and spiritual knowledge like Bali, Los Angeles, London, etc.
