Jaguar Land Rover production may cross three lakh units in the near future. With the new assembly plants in India and China, scheduled to come up next year, the total production of JLR may increase by 25 per cent. The combined production capacity of JLR's existing UK plants is now at 2.4 lakh units. Owing to supply constraints, the company said it has not been able to meet the global demand for JLR. Jaguar and Land Rover have a four-six week waiting period in all major markets. The company retailed 8,700 units of the newly-launched Jaguar XJ from May 2010.

Tata Motors does not have immediate plans to manufacture engines for Jaguar and Land Rover. For JLR engines, apart from Ford, the company will look at sourcing from other players as well. The engine supply for JLR from Ford was constrained since Tata Motors required more engines than it originally asked for.

The growing requirement for JLR engines from the new assembly plants in India and China will be met with supplies from other manufacturers. It is currently engaged with some discussions with some potential partners. Ford too is ramping up its engine production capacity, which will help meet some of the demand from JLR.
